The challenge
Public-sector uniform tenders are decided on the specification sheet. The buyer needed a CVC stretch ripstop that matched an approved reference in look and comfort, and also passed demanding strength tests at an independent lab. Our first sample matched the reference visually but fell short on strength.
How we responded
We treated the buyer’s specification as the fixed point and changed our fabric to meet it, rather than asking for the spec to be relaxed.
- Found the real cause first. Side-by-side testing of greige and finished fabric showed the gap came from the fabric construction, not from dyeing.
- Re-engineered the construction. We upgraded the warp yarn, strengthened the stretch weft and the ripstop grid, and increased density.
- Tuned the finishing route. We adjusted pre-shrinking and finishing so the fabric kept its strength while still getting the hand-feel and water-repellency the program required. This is the trade-off we explain in what silently weakens fabric strength during finishing.
- Agreed how success is measured. Test methods and the acceptance standard were fixed in writing before bulk, so production was judged against the same yardstick as the approved sample.
The result
The re-engineered fabric passed the independent lab tests, the tender order was won, and bulk was delivered on schedule. The program has continued with Yongbo as a stable, ongoing supplier.
